One of the things that makes PC-BSD® great is the graphical utilities it supplies as a front-end to useful FreeBSD features, often adding additional features in the process. Find out more about them here.
AppCafe
Download and Install Applications
AppCafe® is the successor to Software Manager. It helps the user find and install PBIs for any application they want on PC-BSD.
Life Preserver
Back-up and Restore Your System
Life preserver is a frontend for rsync, a Backup Utility. It can be used to back up your data locally or remotely, one time or on a regular schedule.
Ports Jail
Isolated Applications
Ports Jails are a special type of jail available through the Warden® which mirror the FreeBSD Ports tree. They're intended for power users who want to install FreeBSD ports rather than using a PBI, but want to isolate the rest of the system from potential effects.
Warden
Easy Virtual Environments
Warden® is a frontend to FreeBSD Jails. Jails are fully featured virtual machines intended to be used for sandboxing, development, or configuration testing. For example, Warden can be configured as a webserver in a couple of clicks using the meta-packages for Apache, MySQL, and PHP (the "AMP" stack). Meta-packages are preconfigured software packages available through the Warden on PC-BSD.
